In the late 1970s, when I got a job in the Federal Defender Appeals Unit in New York City, I found out that I loved writing and arguing appeals. I discovered that I loved legal research and that I completely enjoyed weaving the facts of a case and legal research into an argument. I also discovered that writing effective appeals takes a great deal of experience.

Robert Wesley Knighton was sentenced to death in 1990 in Oklahoma for the murders of Richard and Virginia Denney. This is the recording of his clemency hearing. Sound Portraits-George Stinney-The Youngest Executed. On June 16, 1944, South Carolina executed the youngest person ever to be executed in the United States. George Stinney was 14 years old when he was executed for the murder of two white girls with a railroad spike. Of course he was convicted by an all white jury. On the 60th anniversary of his electrocution, one of the last surviving memebers of Stinney's family as well as the only surviving sibling of Betty June Binnicker, one of the murder victims, recall the event. Note: Stinney was electrocuted 6 weeks after his trial.

Audio tapes of 22 Georgia executions that were entered into court records when criminal defense attorney Mike Mears subpoenaed them in a lawsuit challenging the state's use of the electric chair.
